Brian F. Knapp joined Chicago Capital in 2016 to lead its creditor services and distressed asset resolution activities in Indiana as well as its asset disposition efforts company wide. He has over 30 years of experience in many areas of commercial real estate including distressed asset resolution, consulting, brokerage, development & redevelopment, ownership, and legal.

Previously Mr. Knapp co-owned and operated a commercial real estate advisory and brokerage firm focusing primarily on the redevelopment, repositioning and/or disposition of underperforming assets for various lenders and special servicers as well as private equity owners. In addition, Mr. Knapp owned and operated two real estate development firms – one developing urban condominium projects and the other ready-to-build retail development sites.

Prior to that Mr. Knapp served in two capacities with Simon Property Group – first as Real Estate Counsel and then as Vice President-Development. As in-house counsel at Simon Mr. Knapp represented landlord, developer and investor interests in hundreds of transactions involving shopping center development, leasing, redevelopment & repositioning and financing. As Vice President-Development Mr. Knapp led over $150M of enclosed regional mall redevelopments and repositionings in the eastern U.S.

Mr. Knapp is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), serving at one time as a State Officer for ICSC.

Mr. Knapp earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Affairs from Indiana University as well as a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame.
